First Look: RYOBI Cordless Orbital Sander

bce86473-a5cf-4889-ab43-0e15c262285a_1000We recently got the RYOBI One+ 18V Cordless Orbital Sander and Lithium Ion Charger from Home Depot. We’ve never tried a cordless product before, so neither of us were sure what what to expect. Let me tell you, this sander is awesome. Right off the bat I liked the hand grip and saw that it was pretty light.

The cordless feature alone made the sanding process so much easier. I was able to sand in the middle of my front porch- avoiding the dreaded sandstorm in my garage or getting tangled in an extension cord. Also, the power that comes with this bad boy is unbelievable. Quite surprisingly, it got the job done much faster and smoother than my “go-to” sander did. But hold on… with more power comes more noise, right? WRONG. I am not even kidding guys, I was on the phone with a friend and when I said I’d call her back because I was sanding she said she literally heard nothing on her end… true story. This is a big deal for me especially since I like to work at night but couldn’t (or shouldn’t have) due to the noise level of my previous sander.  Last but not least, the Lithium battery pack that comes with the sander works with other Ryobi products. Saving money is always a good thing in my book 🙂

Before using you have to charge your battery (about an hour charge time). The only con that I have is that for the first few charges, the battery only lasts for about 30 minutes. However, RYOBI does explain in its pamphlet that it takes a few charges for the battery to gain its “full charge”. I guess this is normal for Lithium batteries, but what can I say I’m impatient.

All in all, we would absolutely buy this product again. The RYOBI One+ 18V Cordless Orbital Sander retails for $39.97 at HomeDepot.com. Have you used this sander before? Let us know what you think!

This is the piece I did using the RYOBI Sander
