Quick and Easy Picture Frame Chalkboard

Thanksgiving is right around the corner.  Since we’ll just be moving into the new house and the majority of our décor will still be packed away, I decided to throw a little something together on Si’s sideboard with what we have on hand. I’ve been seeing chalk board menus all over and happened to come across this “how-to” from HGTV and thought I’d try it out.  It was super simple, fairly inexpensive and will give our new dining room a little personality for the holiday!  The rest again, was just stuff I had on hand including our Nan’s tea set from Poland!

The frame already had some paint on it, so I used Paint Couture!™ Pale Gold and  Zinc Glaze to highlight the pretty details and then sealed with Lacquer Couture!™ in flat.  Although I didn’t use the same supplies as what was used on HGTV, I achieved the look that I was going for.  Sometimes improvising, trial and error and using what you have on hand is the best route to go.

I loved the idea of using the chalkboard as a menu for family dinners, but thought this would also serve well as a shopping/to-do list in the kitchen, chore chart for the kids (or significant other!) or even as a memo board.  Lots of uses for this fairly easy and inexpensive DIY project!
