An alternative to pull out trash cans…
Nope, it’s not a pretty faux finish or a lovely piece of furniture…no friends, today I dealt with our pantry and trash cans. Every month when I clean out our pantry I dread it. I swear up and down that I’m going to build a new system with pullout trash cans and lots of functional space. While it’s a lovely thought, there are so many projects that are on my list that are WAY more fun, so it’s been pushed to the back of my mind and will likely stay there for a while. In the meantime though, this is what I’m dealing with…certainly not the smallest pantry around, but it just isn’t great with the trash cans taking up the tiny standing space. When we built our home, we considered putting the trash and recycling in one of those pull outs that’s housed inside the cabinets, but with our family of 7, I’d be emptying those itty bitty cans 10 times a day. I’m not really a fan of having the cans out in the open, so the they’ve resided in the pantry.
Take a look at our 1 minute pantry modification! We literally yanked the bottom shelf out and slid the trash and recycling cans right into place. I can actually walk in the pantry now! We’ve been here for just over 2 years and I can’t believe I didn’t think to do this sooner! Can I get an amen for good ideas that are free and functional!!?
I have lived in my house 17 years and am just finally making simple easy modifications after reading about some of the amazing things you ladies do(bloggers), so don’t feel bad..You may just inspire someone like me..
Amen, Dorrie
You came up with a good idea anything. I have been trying to come up with ideas on how to keep ahead of the recycling. Thankfully it isn’t required anymore that we separate the cans, bottles, plastic, paper, etc., etc., etc..

I love what you did. So simple! When I redo my kitchen I want a recycle center. Right now I have a can between 2 garage cabinets. I should take pictures, even though it’s not that beautiful.
