When Motivation Strikes, Closets Get Clean

Our house has been taken over folks! Not by squatters, not by pests….something far worse…a bazillion pairs of kiddie shoes! Now, I’m no fool. I had the hubs install locks in the main closet thinking my clever solution would put an end to the kids constant in and out. Ha, as if! On more than one occasion, I nearly broke my foot tripping on the shoes strewn ALL OVER. They seemed to live in various areas of the kitchen, in the living room, in the hallway…JUST EVERYWHERE! I needed a solution and quick. Check out what I did!

I’m hanging my head in shame here over the state of this closet, and yes, I’m totally putting it out there for all to see.  This craptastic closet was our former reality…We are a family of 7.  I could literally clean this sucker every day and inevitably, this is how it would look at the end of the day.

This is the second closet near the garage entry, in slightly better shape than the other, though that’s only because it had really been underused.  It only has 4 hooks and 6 cubbies. We’re a family of 7…What in the world am I gonna do with 4 darn hooks???

I went on a mission!  I found this little gem at Target for $10!!! Saved me a trip to Home Depot and the headache of installing a wooden bar.

This is the AFTER of the main closet. There’s not a stitch of kiddie-wear to be found! This is now officially now the adults closet.

Welcome to what I have affectionately dubbed, Kiddie Corner!!!  I installed the bar, got 4 new bins for the built in storage, one for each of the little kids (Thanks Jenny H. for that idea!) and I used an Ikea bin that I already had for scarves, hats and gloves. I left the 4 hooks up in back and you can hardly even notice them. This is WAY better and so much more organized!

This is the area in the same nook as the new kiddie closet. They each have a hook for their back packs, a spot for the coats and shoes and I’m a happy mama again!
